God's Holy Frying Pan

Tonight as I was getting supper on plates (tacos, to be exact) my son starts to whine, "Katie called me a baby, but I'm not a baby!" Of course he puckered out his bottom lip so he resembled more of a baby than the 8 year old he is.

I responded, "If you know you are not a baby then why do you care what she says? Don't worry so much about what other people say."

At that exact moment it happened, WHAM!, hit between the eyes with what a college friend liked to refer to as "God's Holy Frying Pan." Sometimes I think God gave me my son so I could get a small taste of what He goes through with me every day.

I'm not so caught up in whether or not people like me. I don't follow the crowd to be popular, I mean, that's so high school, right? But when I perceive people don't take me seriously as either a writer or an entrepreneur, it hurts. I'm pretty sure I've gone to God with my lip poked out and said "They said I wasn't good enough."

The truth is, it doesn't matter what other people say. What matter is what God says. Want to hear it? While He wrote it just for me, He wrote it just for you too.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

"Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. If indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share with His glory." Romans 8:17

"I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14

"Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1:26

"In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory." Ephesians 1:13-14

So the next time you feel like running home because someone called you a baby (or worse) remember who God says you are and rest assured in the truth of His word.

What's your favorite verse that tells about who God believes you are?
